1984…Année rendue célèbre par Georges Orwell, c’est cette année là que la station de Mould Bay fût ‘branché’ pour la première fois en direct avec le Sud…enfin on pouvait avoir la télé, HBO, CBC North, enfin on pouvait écouter Dallas, Coronation Street de la BBC…gros hit sur l’heure du midi, du moins à Résolute Bay, moins ici à Mould Bay, donc en bref nous étions bien content d’accueillir notre ‘Big Brother’, version édulcorée….:)  Ce que je me souviens le plus de cette installation est le courage du mécanicien, soudeur pour la cause, qui devait souder les pièces du support à mains nues, par un froid de -45 degrés…Celsius ou Fahrenheit, à cette température c’est du pareil au même, les deux sont identiques à -40.

1984…Emblematic year, make known by the same title novel of George Orwell, that year, for the first time, Mould Bay Weather Station was finally hooked to the South, now we could watch television, Dallas was big that year, and big in Mould Bay and Eureka too, BBC’s Coronation Street was very popular in Resolute and at a lesser point in Mould Bay, …but I have to mention about this dish installation the courage of the mechanic of the station, who had to weld the support of this thing by a temperature of -45 degrees, Celsius or Fahrenheit, at that point it doesn’t matter, at -40 it is the same and he had to work bare hand….we had also to dig out of the snow some material left outside and frozen on the ground, could not work more than 15 or 20 minutes without getting inside and out again….but we were happy to welcome our lesser evil of Orwell’s Big Brother….
