Fin avril 1982, première soirée dans la ville qui allait être mon chez moi pour les 4 prochaines années, je ne le savais pas encore, combien de temps j’habiterais là-bas. mon nouvel employeur fournissait la première semaine dans cette tour d’habitation, 20e étage, je me sentais un peu seul et perdu, dans un milieu anglophone, moi qui ne possédait qu’une connaissance assez limité de l’anglais, comme me l’avais si bien fait comprendre le passager voisin dans l’avion, à qui j’avais pourtant parlé tout le long du voyage, dans sa langue, et qu’au départ, lui il retournait à Calgary, m’avait dit que j’étais mieux d’apprendre l’anglais, pourtant pendant les trois heures du vol je m’étais adressé à lui en anglais tout le long, disons que c’était pour moi un accueil un peu glacial, on dit souvent du Canada et du Québec que ce sont deux solitudes, ce soir là c’est plutôt ce que je ressentais, heureusement les choses se passèrent beaucoup mieux par la suite..

End of April 1982, first night in my new home then, Winnipeg, and it would be for the next four years, of course then I did not know how long I would stay there, the only thing I know was that this appartment in a high rise building downtown was mine for a week, and since my english at that time was quite limited, every little thing was an ordeal for me.. .:), as my nice neighbourg on the plane gently let me know, after I manage to talk to him three hours in english during the fligth from Montreal to Winnipeg, his au revoir, he was going back home to Calgary, was ‘well you better learn to speak decent english’…I was mad….they say of Canada and Quebec, that we are two solitude standing one beside the other, I really felt that this night, and I was a bit lonely and wondering what I was doing there…but not long after that everything start going well and I was happy to be there…
