A photo coming from a past travel, from Cherbourg, June or July, 1986, something that bring back lot of good memories to my mind….

De retour, en photo bien sûr, d’un passé pas si lointain, mais peuplé de souvenirs plus ou moins nébuleux, un peu comme cette photo prise à la tombée du jour dans le port….avec en prime la brume qui s’amène.
Back, in photo only, photo from the past, not a very distant past, but enough so what I do remember of these days is a bit foggy, pretty much like this picture taken shortly after sunset, and the fog was rolling in.
Normalement je ne recadre pas mes photos, mais dans ce cas-ci je me disais que ce serait mieux si je le faisais, par contre ce que je fais presque toujours, c’est de jouer avec le contraste, la luminosité et les tons de couleurs, réchauffer ou refroidir certaines parties de l’image, et bien sûr enlever, autant que je le peux, les marques faites par les poussières qui sont encore là…donc le port de Cherbourg, encore, une amarre, trop grosse à mon goût et le navire qui lui ne sortait pas à mon goût…la photo modifié et ensuite l’originale….
Usually I do not crop my photo, but this time I felt it was better to do so, but I always play with contrast, tone and change the color temperature in some areas, warmer or colder, besides contrast and of course removing, as much as I can do, speckles and dust marks that are still there after wiping the neg or slide…another one from Cherbourg Port, but I though that the tie mooring, not sure how we call those big thing used to tie a boat to the pier…was way too big and obvious, and the boat was not, so I did try to correct that, so the corrected pic and also the original one.

Encore des problèmes à régler avec mon site sur Weebly, je ne peux éditer mes anciennes pages ‘Accueil’ et ‘Blog’ donc en attendant cette nouvelle page de blog…’Blogue’, il me faudra peut-être les supprimer si je ne réussis pas à les réparer, donc en attendant une photo de plus du port de Cherbourg, à la brunante, un peu de brume qui arrive, la mise-au-point de la prise de vue laisse à désirer mais cela ajoute peut-être au ‘mood’ de la photo…:)
Still have issues with my old ‘Welcome’ and ‘blog’ pages on my main site on Weebly…maybe I will have to create new ones if I cannot get things fix, so in the meantime I create new pages, maybe I will have to scrap the others one, don’t know yet…so in the meantime here’s another pic from the Cherbourg Port, at dusk, a bit of fog seems to be rolling in, the photo backgroung is a bit out of focus, my mistake…but let’s pretend it was intentional to add to the general mood of the photo…:)

Cela peut être n’importe où, des ports, des bateaux qui se reflètent dans l’eau c’est assez commun, et cela attire toujours, du moins souvent mon oeil de photographe…celui-ci est…un indice, ce n’est pas une gondole, mais on en trouve pas bien loin, et plusieurs…
It can be almost anywhere, it is not uncommon to find a boat reflecting into the water, always appealing for a photographer, at least me…, usually it is mostly where they stand, along a wharf, this one could be anywhere, a hint, it is not a gondola, but there are many of them not too far away….

Je dois admettre, j’ai quelque chose pour les avions, les bateaux, les aéroports et les ports, même si finalement je les ai bien peu utilisés sauf pour une courte période, peut-être parce que ce sont des portes sur l’ailleurs…et le dépaysement, quoique dans mon cas j’aime être un peu dépaysé mais pas trop, ne pas comprendre la langue mais être capable de reconnaître l’alphabet me donne un point d’ancrage…et avec l’anglais et le français, un peu d’allemand, je parviens à me débrouiller du moins ici et en Europe…bon tout cela pour dire que c’est une photo d’un port, celui de Cherbourg, qui avait été mon point d’évasion après une semaine à Paris, il commençait à faire très chaud et j’avais besoin de trouver un peu de calme…voulait aller en Bretagne, je me suis trompé de gare, donc au lieu de la Bretagne, j’ai pris le train pour Cherbourg…
I must admit I am attracted to planes, boats, and consequently to airport and port, can’t say I did use them extensively, except for a period of 5 years, but I always like walking along ports, maybe because as airports are, they are a gateway to others place, somewhere else…and a door to feeling a change of scene, although I don’t want it to be too drastic, I feel more comfortable if I can read the alphabet, even if the language is unknown to me, and usually french, English and a bit of German does help you getting around, at least Europe, so all of this to came to say that this is the Cherbourg’s Port, I kind of escape Paris…too hot and busy, I wanted to go to Bretagne, went to the wrong train station and end up in Chergbourg, it was what I needed, cooler, calmer…

Aznavour chante les parapluies de Cherbourg, moi je n’y ai vu que le port, des bistros, une auberge de jeunesse et une place pù acheter un vélo….
Aznavour did sing about the umbrellas in Cherbourg, but me, I only found a port, some bistros, a youth hostel and a cycling shop where I bought a bicycle…
Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais l’image et les images que j’ai de la Normandie sont plutôt bucoliques, sauf bien sûr pour le port de Cherbourg, mais je ne m’attendais pas à voir de haut de ces toits des grues, donc un port, autre qu’un port de plaisance je présume, c’était toujours à Granville…donc ok ce n’est pas Hambourg, Rotterdam, mais un port …vue de loin, je dois admettre que je n’ai pas marché jusque là…
I don’t know why, but to me Normandy is more like bucolic landscape, not many industries, of course there is a large port in Cherbourg, but from the top of the stairs I did not anticipate to see big cranes, like the ones we see in most of seaport, I admit it is not Hamburg, or Rotterdam but I wasn’t expecting to see something else than a marina, or something where small boats are coming, maybe it is not a large one, actually I did not walk up to there, so a distant view of wharf cranes, still in Granville, if I’m not wrong or my memory isn’t playing tricks to me…
