Une photo du centre-ville de Winnipeg, prise le tout premier soir de mon arrivée là-bas fin avril 1982, à ce moment là je lisais la ‘troisième vague’ d’Alvin Tofler, qui faisait état entre autre que la main-d’oeuvre qualifié, j’imagine que j’en faisais partie, serait mobile, transplantable d’un milieu à l’autre, et que pour faciliter cela de plus en plus les appartements seraient aménagés en prévisions d’accueillir ces nouveaux nomade..ce soir là je quittais Montréal (temporairement), et ce soir là j’avais un appartement, mais seulement pour la première semaine, où tout était prêt, mes affaires étaient encore dans des boîtes quelque part entre Montréal et Winnipeg…donc la photo est prise du balcon, quelque part aux alentours du 20e étage, et on peut voir, dans la partie supérieure de la photo, les deux bâtiments où j’allais travailler les quatre prichaines années. Cela me faisait penser au livre que je lisais, mais pour une semaine seulement, par la suite j’allais trouver un appartement plus chaleureux…
Downtown Winnipeg, on the first night I arrived there end of April 1982, I was to spent the next four years working in those two high rise building, we can see in the upper part of the photo, at that time I was reading Alvin Tofler’s ‘The Third Wave’, this book was about the increasing mobility of a new type of professional worker, highly mobile, that can be moved from town to town, country to country, regularly, and that already furnished apartment and other services would be readily available without having to move all your belongings, for my first week there, it did sounds quite like that, I had for the first week a modern apartment, in a high-rise building downtown, from there we can see on the picture the two buildings where I would work the next four years, but this was for the first week, and then I found a more cosy place in the upper part of a transformed dwelling, a little house in Osborne Village, the ‘hipster neighborhood’ of the time.

Ingénieur, je travaillais à la planification et surveillance des travaux…c’était dans une autre vie pratiquement…:)
Travaux, construction? génie civil? extraction? j’imagine qu’on va pas dans le grand nord pour construire des bungalows? 😉
En fait c’était pour des travaux de construction et rénovation pour des stations météorologiques, il fallait donc des garages, bâtiment pour génération d’électricité, distribution d’eau, égouts, piste d’atterrissage, une petite ville presque…:)

Thanks, the only time in my life i had a place, shortly I must say, in a high building, the view was good, I took some ‘fuzzy’ shots at night, no tripod then…:)
